Barrington Pop Warner celebrates fall season

Cheer teams qualify for Nationals

Posted

Barrington Pop Warner had one of its best seasons ever this past fall, as the league was able to field two tackle football teams, three cheer teams, and 15 flag football teams.

The cheer teams — Junior Varsity, Junior Pee Wee, and Tony Mites — enjoyed a very successful fall season. The Junior Varsity and Junior Pee Wee teams qualified for Pop Warner Nationals in Orlando, Fla.

The Junior Varsity team, coached by Jamie Testa and assistants Susan D’Andrea and Shelby Olivier, scored in the mid-90s at the Pop Warner regionals, while the Junior Pee Wee team, coached by Kristen Sietins and assistant Stacey Munzert, scored in the high 80s. (The top score is 100.)

Barrington Pop Warner President Susan Moran said she was very impressed by both teams at regionals.

“In 2011, Barrington Pop Warner sent their first cheer team to Pop Warner Nationals, and we have repeated five times since,” said Ms. Moran. “And now in 2021 we are, for the first time, sending two teams – our Junior Pee Wee (ages 8 – 11) and our Junior Varsity (ages 10 – 13). We are extremely proud of the success of our program and the success of these two teams that will represent Barrington in our sixth appearance at Nationals. Competitive Cheer is a tough sport, in Barrington we are building strong teams and are passionate about the tradition we have created over the last decade.”

Ms. Moran was also pleased to field two tackle teams this fall — the Eagles had teams at the 12U and 10U division. Both teams celebrated wins throughout the fall season, led by the 10U team’s 6-2 record. They just missed out on qualifying for the playoffs.

“…Barrington Pop Warner is not only celebrating our JPW and JV cheer teams headed to Nationals, we are celebrating our return to tackle,” Ms. Moran said. “This year we were back on Victory Field with tackle teams for the first time since 2017, and as an organization that started in 1970 with tackle – it was our goal to come back strong in 2021, no matter what obstacles. We have achieved and are looking forward to our next tackle season in 2022.”

Barrington also continued to fill multiple teams in its flag football league. This fall, Barrington had four teams each at the 6U, 9U, and 11U division, and three teams at the 14U division. The league held its “Championship Sunday” on Nov. 14, awarding champions in each of the divisions.

Barrington plans to offer a spring flag football league also.

Support

Ms. Moran said Barrington Pop Warner would like to thank all the people and organizations who have stepped forward to support the fund-raising effort that accompanies sending two cheer teams to Nationals.

She said Barrington Pop Warner is still collecting donations.

“It takes a lot to support our program and even more so when we have two cheer teams traveling to Nationals in Florida, especially at this time of year,” she said. “We do have a Go Fund Me set up, https://www.gofundme.com/f/barrington-jv-jpw-cheer-is-going-to-nationals or you can send a check to Barrington Pop Warner, PO Box 192, Barrington, RI. Your tax deductible donation is appreciated.”
