The Barrington Police Department received its reaccreditation award recently.
Christine Crocker, the executive director of the Rhode Island Police Accreditation Commission, attended the Nov. 4 council meeting and presented the department with its certificate for completing the reaccreditation process.
"Accreditation is no easy task, it is a lot of work. … Getting re-accredited is even harder," Ms. Crocker said during a brief presentation at the council meeting. "You should be very proud of this department. They are committed."
Barrington Police Chief Dino DeCrescenzo said the department needed to meet more than 200 standards to receive its reaccreditation. Lt. Josh Birrell and Det. John Sgagliardich served as the department's accreditation managers. Both men also attended the Nov. 4 council meeting to receive the certification from Ms. Crocker.
The department received its first accreditation in 2016.
Barrington Town Council President Michael Carroll said that the department's accreditation affords the town much lower deductibles when insuring the police department.
The reaccreditation is good for the next three years, until Nov. 2022.
