Barrington police charge Warren man with DUI
Arrest stems from Oct. 30 car crash
A month after he was involved in a head-on crash in Barrington, a Warren man is facing a DUI charge.
Barrington police said Gary M. Rego, 53, was driving his Toyota Camry north over the Barrington River Bridge at about 9:15 p.m. on Oct. 30, when his vehicle crossed the center lines and struck a south-bound Toyota RAV4 head-on. Witnesses to the crash quickly called police, and officers were on-scene a few minutes later.
Police said the two vehicles sustained heavy damage, and both motorists were injured.
Police said Mr. Rego was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered more serious injuries than the Barrington man who was driving the RAV4, as he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Police said Mr. Rego consented to a blood test following the crash. That test showed that Mr. Rego's blood alcohol content exceeded the legal limit, said police.
On Saturday, Nov. 30, Warren police arrested Mr. Rego on a warrant for DUI, and transferred him to Barrington police.
