Barrington police charged William E. Pennoyer, 57, of Riverside, with reckless driving/drag racing/eluding police-first offense after an apparent drag racing incident on the Wampanoag Trail on Tuesday, March 1.

According to police, Mr. Pennoyer was driving his Corvette on Route 114 South at about 11 a.m. when he approached another motorist — a 33-year-old Warwick man who was driving a customized Nissan.

Mr. Pennoyer motioned to the Warwick man, asking if he wanted to race. Mr. Pennoyer then gassed his car, which sent the Corvette sliding sideways and into the Warwick man's Nissan.

The Corvette then skidded off the road and into a wooded area along Route 114 South. Cameras inside the Nissan captured video evidence of the incident.
