The Barrington High School boys' track team defeated Mt. Hope 104-32, and St. Raphael's 114-33, on Monday, April 25. 

Bobby Colantonio continued to dominate, winning the hammer throw and discus events while Vasilios Meltsakos was tops in the pole vault and the triple jump. 

Sam Read and Hayden Ivatts each won track events. Hayden won the 1,500 meter race and the 800, while Sam won the 100 and the 200.

Other individual event winners included Will Connelly (3,000), Josh Meranda (300 hurdles), and Sanni Harder (javelin). 

Barrington's 4x100 relay team (Sam Read, Sam Pomerantz, Will Riley and Shaheer Yasin) won, as did the 4x400 relay team (George Wicker, Hayden Ivatts, Sam Read and Eli Mitnick).

Girls' track

Barrington ran away with a pair of wins on Monday, defeating Mt. Hope 130-20, and St. Raphael's 142-6. 

Barrington athletes won all but two events during the meet. Annika Kelly won the discus and hammer, while Stephanie Galbraith won the 300 hurdles, 100 high hurdles and long jump. 

Other event winners included Faith Polando (shot put), Lauren Richardson (pole vault), Mary Berkery (high jump), Oana Groza (triple jump), Erin Abbott (100 meters), Kate Zitzmann (1,500), Julia Zitzmann (800), Brianna Gausland (200), and Lily Gagliano (3,000). 

The Eagles' 4x100 relay team of Erin Abbott, Brianna Gausland, Jillian Walter and Olivia Middleton won its event, and the 4x400 relay team of Kate and Julia Zitzmann, Gausland and Anna Downe also won.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
