For the second time in the past few weeks, Barrington Police investigated a tracking device placed on a resident's vehicle. 

A Barrington resident called police on Friday, Dec. 2 to report a suspicious condition — the resident asked police if it was legal for someone to attach a tracking device to someone else’s vehicle. The resident then told police he had found a tracking device on his vehicle.

Police said the resident had discovered that his wife had hired a private investigator, who had placed the device on his vehicle. The resident has since removed the device.

Police documented the incident. No one was charged. 

About three weeks earlier, a different Barrington resident stopped into the police station after she received a notification on her iPhone that an air tag was tracking her route.

Officers checked the woman’s vehicle and found the air tag. Police investigated and later determined that a contractor who had been working at the woman’s home had placed the air tag on her vehicle. Police said the contractor had admitted to it. Criminal charges could be pending, police said. The resident obtained a no contact order against the contractor.
