A group of 11 Rhode Island high school students — including three from Barrington High School — performed at the renowned Newport Jazz Festival last weekend.

Barrington’s Jason Buka, Moses Densley and Miles Burke took the stage with their fellow high school students for all three days of the festival.

The students performed in Jazz combos under the direction of the 2023 RIMEA All-State Jazz Ensemble Director Dino Govoni.

All the students were members of the 2023 RIMEA All-State Jazz Ensemble which performed last March at URI as part of RIMEA’s annual All-State Concert Festival.

The students were sponsored by their schools’ music teachers and were selected based on competitive auditions from throughout Rhode Island that took place last November.

“They are representative of the level of excellence that Rhode Island’s high school students can achieve when supported by comprehensive quality music programs in their schools,” stated a recent press release.

Following is a list of the students, the schools they attend, and the instruments they play:

• Jason Buka, Barrington High School, bass

• Moses Densley, Barrington High School, saxophone

• Miles Burke, Barrington High School, trombone

• Erik Lee, Cranston High School West, drums

• Nathaniel Gomes, Cumberland High School, drums

• Collin Klampert, Middletown High School, guitar

• Brandon Sun, East Greenwich High School, piano

• Isaac Stormont, Ponaganset High School, saxophone

• Noah Ramm, Toll Gate High School, saxophone

• Kazuya Bojarski, Moses Brown School, trumpet

• Quinn Kennedy, North Kingstown High School, trumpet
