Eagles defeat Townies and Bengals on Monday, April 28

The Barrington High School golf team is off to a strong start this season. 

The Eagles opened the 2025 Eastern Division regular season with wins over Mt. Hope and Rogers High School at Rhode Island Country Club. Barrington finished with a 158, while Mt. Hope carded a 174, and Rogers tallied a 281. 

Barrington High School’s Claire McTaggart and Rocco DiMatteo shared medalist honors, each finishing with 1-over 37 scores over RICC's front nine.

On Monday, April 28, Barrington defeated East Providence and Bay View during a match at Crestwood Country Club. The Eagles carded a 143, while East Providence finished with 187 and Bay View had 280. 

Lily Dessel led the Eagles with a 34, while McTaggart and Greg Fitta each fired 36s and Emma Lockhart carded a 37. 

Barrington leads the Eastern Division State Championship Tournament Qualifying standings with a 4-0 record.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
