Barrington's special holiday celebration — "Barrington Glows" — will take place on Saturday, Dec. 1, in and around the government center.

Barrington Glows will feature a full schedule of events, starting at 11 a.m. At the government center, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be horse-drawn wagon rides, a game of Peanuts holiday bingo, as well as an opportunity for children to decorate snowflake cookies and for teens to have fund in the RI Maker Lab.

There will be a performance by Sparky's puppets from 1 to 1:45 p.m. inside the public library auditorium, and from 2:30 to 3:15, there will be Bjorn's Magic Show inside the library auditorium.

Also taking place from 1 to 4 p.m. will be a life-size game of Candy Land, a special winter art project with Taylor Terreri, and face-painting by Suzanne Duquette. Meenal Gogte will offer Henna holiday tattoos and children can spend time at the crafts table writing letters to Santa Claus.

That's important, because at 3:45 p.m., Santa is expected to arrive outside the Barrington Town Hall. It has been reported that Santa will be handing out special treats to boys and girls.

Special holiday musical performances will begin at 4:15 p.m. on the town hall steps. A group from Arts Alive!, the Barrington High School choral ensemble and the Barrington Middle School a cappella chorus are expected to perform.

Barrington Town Council President Michael Carroll will share welcoming remarks just before the 5 p.m. tree lighting. More songs will follow the tree lighting.

Food trucks and other refreshments will be available throughout the Barrington Glows event.

Also, people are asked to bring along a new, unwrapped toy to the Barrington Police Department's "Fill the Cruiser" toy drive. All toys will be given to the US Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program.

The Barrington Glows event is free and open to the public.
