Barrington girls win track class championship
Eagles win seven events, score in 13 out of 14
The Barrington High School girls indoor track team dominated all three relay events and cruised to the Medium School Class Championship on Saturday, Feb. 8. Barrington outscored second-place South Kingstown by 90 points.
The Eagles scored in 13 of the 14 events and had winners in seven events. Barrington also celebrated wins in all three relay events — 4x800-meters, 4x400-meters, and 4x200-meters.
Olivia Johnson, Sarah Hennessey, Riley Curran and Lindsay Turgeon combined to win the 4x800-meter race with a time of 10:00.54.
In the 4x400-meter race, Tess Gagliano, Violet Gagliano, Julia Howarth and Jordynn Palethorpe raced to victory for the Eagles. The same four girls ran together in the 4x200-meter relay and enjoyed the same results — a win.
Barrington's Stephanie Chun won the 3,000-meter race, crossing the finish line 20 seconds faster than the next competitor. Her time of 10:42.61 was a personal best in the event. Olivia Clyne finished sixth in the same event.
Barrington swept the top three spots in the 1,500-meter race, as Caroline Livingston finished first, Margaret Nozaki was second and Meg Zitzmann was third. Audrey Falkner finished seventh in the event.
The Gagliano sisters ran to first and third place finishes in the 600-meter race. Tess, a junior, finished first with a time of 1:41.46, while Violet, a freshman, was third with a time of 1:42.53.
Palethorpe and Howarth finished one, two in the 300-meter race — only five-one hundredths of a second separated the two runners.

• 55-meter dash: 3. Palethorpe
• 1,000-meters: 2. Nozaki; 4. Turgeon
• High jump: 5. Grover; 6. Ashleigh Wallen
• Shot put: 2. Madison McGloin
• Weight throw: 2. McGloin; 5. MacKenzie Stephens; 7. Sasha Westrick
• Long jump: 8. Aby Diallo
Barrington will compete in the state track championship on Saturday, Feb. 15. The top six finishers at the state meet automatically qualify for the New England High School Championship meet at the Reggie Louis Center in Boston on Saturday, Feb. 29.
