Barrington won the Eastern Division Championship on Monday, May 6. The Eagles scored 172 points, finishing well ahead of second place LaSalle Academy, which had 132, and Portsmouth, which scored 73.

Barrington won the Eastern Division Championship on Monday, May 6. The Eagles scored 172 points, finishing well ahead of second place LaSalle Academy, which had 132, and Portsmouth, which scored 73.

Stephanie Chun won the 3,000-meter race with a time of 10:42.03, while Annika Kelly won the discus and the hammer. Annika had a top throw of 124 feet, 6 inches in the discus and 185 feet, 8 inches in the hammer. Olivia Middleton won the triple jump with a distance of 34 feet, 10.25 inches.

Barrington's 4x400-meter relay team of Julia Howarth, Jordynn Palethorpe, Sarah Hennessey and Meg Zitzmann captured first place in that event.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
