Barrington girls run to second place at Class A Championships

Lily Cregan, Indie Lamb are individual class champs

The Barrington High School girls indoor track team finished second at the Class A Championship meet on Saturday, Feb. 4. 

The Eagles, paced by a strong all-around effort, scored points in 11 out of the 14 events contested. Barrington also crowned two individual Class A champs — Lily Cregan won the weight throw event, and Indie Lamb won the 600-meter race.

“In my three years of coaching at Barrington I believe this may be the best overall team performance we have had in a meet!” Coach Ed Roskiewicz wrote in a recent email. 

Classical won the meet with 139 points, followed by Barrington in second with 83 points, Cranston West in third with 75 points, LaSalle in fourth with 51.5 points, and Cumberland in fifth with 40.5 points. Twelve teams competed in the Class A Championships.

• Long jump: 2. Sophia Ford, 8. Allie Ford

• 55-hurdles: 4. Roskiewicz

• 600-meter race: 3. Olivia Johnson

• 1,000-meter race: 2. Caroline Reznik

• 1,500-meter race: 6. Kyle Keough, 8. Maeve Kelly

• 3,000-meter race: 7. Virginia Sanderson

• 4x200-meter relay: 7. Barrington (Courtney Brady, Roxanna Mohammadi, Hannah Bairos and Ella Reagan)

• 4x400-meter relay: 3. Barrington (Johnson, Lamb, Keough and Reznik)

• 4x800-meter relay: 3. Barrington (Keough, Athena Gao, Kelly and Jane Bryant)

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
