Barrington boys overpower the field at Eastern Division Championship

The Barrington High School boys track team dominated the competition and won the Eastern Division Championship at Victory Field on Sunday, May 18. 

The Eagles finished with 345 points, while second place Rogers High School scored 113 and third place Portsmouth had 104. East Providence was fourth with 96 points, Tiverton was fifth with 30 points and Mt. Hope was sixth with 17 points. Eleven teams competed in the division championship. 

Barrington student-athletes won 12 out of the 19 events. Bobby Wind, Charly Potter and Joe Adams won two events each. 

Wind was tops in the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles, while Potter won the javelin and the long jump, and Adams won the hammer and the discus. 

Henry Stockwell won the 800-meter race and then teamed up with Shea Parish, Marius Bonard and Daniel Chun to win the 4x400-meter relay event. 

Chun partnered with his twin brother Michael and Vlad Horvatic and Brooks Mello to win the 4x800-meter relay. Mello outpaced the field to win the 1,500-meter race also. 

Aden Memoli won the triple jump and Caleb Satisfield won the high jump. 

In every individual event, Barrington had multiple student-athletes place in the top-eight spots.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
