Barrington basketball teams earn byes in state tournaments

Girls team will play Monday night, boys tip off on Tuesday

Both Barrington High School basketball teams will compete in their respective open state tournaments.

The BHS girls team, fresh off their Division I championship title, will enter the Girls State Tournament as the number one seed. The Eagles earned a first round bye in the tournament and will play in an Elite 8 quarterfinal game on Monday, March 11 at CCRI Knight Campus in Warwick, at 5:30 p.m.

Barrington will play the winner of the Chariho versus Mount St. Charles game. 

The Mounties and Chieftains competed in Division II. The Mounties reached the semifinals of the Division II tournament, losing to Moses Brown, 50-30, while the Chieftains reached the semifinals of the Division II tournament, losing to Tolman, 58-40. 

In the regular season, Mount St. Charles finished in first place in Division II-A. The Mounties went 16-3 in the regular season. Chariho finished in second place in Division II-A with a record of 16-4. 

The BHS boys team will be the number two seed in the Boys State Tournament. Barrington received a first round bye and will play in an Elite 8 quarterfinal game on Tuesday, March 12 at Rhode Island College. The game is at 6 p.m. 

Barrington will play the winner of the 10-7 game, which features St. Raphael’s (7) against North Providence (10). St. Raphael’s lost in the semifinals of the Division II tournament, while North Providence won the Division III tournament. 

St. Raphael’s finished second in Division II in the regular season with a record of 16-3. North Providence finished first in Division III with a 19-1 record.
