Barbara A. (Gadbois) Brochu, 82, of Warren, died Tuesday, Feb. 2 ,2021 at home. She was the wife of the late Richard S. “Dick” Brochu.

Barbara was born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Alfred and Helen (Sroka) Gadbois.
She was a graduate of Case High School in Swansea, Class of 1956, where she played on the varsity basketball team.

Mrs. Brochu was a secretary int the Vice Principal’s office at Kickemuit Middle School for many years.

She had lived in Warren since 1972, coming from Fall River. She was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Bay Church and was active at the Warren Senior Center.

Mrs. Brochu was active with the Federal Blues, with her husband and son. Barbara was a member of the German Club in Warren, a member of the Splain Family Sewing Circle and was a former member of the Fall River Ski Club. She was an avid gardener and reader who also enjoyed cooking and traveling. However, time spent with her family and friends was what she loved most of all.

She is survived by her son, Mark S. Brochu of Warren. Barbara was the sister of the late Joseph Gadbois, Alfred “Bumsey” Gadbois and Elaine Gadbois.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Saturday, Feb. 6, in St. Mary of the Bay Church, Warren. Burial followed in St. Mary of the Bay Cemetery, Warren.

Gifts in her memory may be made to the St. Mary of the Bay Food Pantry, 645 Main St. Warren, RI 02885, or to an animal shelter of your choice.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
