Bad boating on display in the Warren River

Barrington assistant harbormaster Bob Hughes snapped a few pictures of a powerboat throwing a large wake in the Warren River while a number of sailboats from Barrington Yacht Club made their way south into the bay for the Tuesday night races on Aug. 6.

“Technically, there is no speed limit in this part of the river, which is below Warren’s 5mph/no wake buoys, but anybody leaving a wake like this in close proximity to sailboats is irresponsible,” Mr. Hughes wrote in a recent e-mail.

The assistant harbormaster was in his own private vessel, a 36-foot trawler, at the time of the incident and was surprised to see the powerboat operator show such a flagrant disregard for fellow mariners.
