Authors plan book tour Saturday at Westport Point

Westport authors Fred and Amy Thurber will lead a walking tour of Westport Point Saturday in support of their new book, "In the Wake of the Willows," a humorous followup to the classic "The Wind in the Willows," released more than 110 years ago.

The New World version of the classic is set on a New England coastal estuary in the 1920's. "In the Wake of the Willows" is a story about the denizens of a very special river for, like their relatives on the other side of the ocean, this river had its own Rat, Mole, Badger, Otter and Weasel clans.

When a spooky nocturnal creature starts terrorizing the riverfront, Mr. Rat’s clever daughter sets to work solving the mystery and unmasking the culprit.  But that is only the beginning of the intrigue and adventure one eventful summer.

The tour will begin at 2 p.m. and meets at the Westport United Methodist Church, 1912 Main Road. Points along the way will include a house or two, the point and other spots of interest. It finishes up at the Paquachuck Inn at Westport Point, and will last about an hour.

The book is available on Amazon. Locally you can find it at Partners in Tiverton, Davoll's in Russells Mills, Courtyards and the Drawing Room in New Bedford.
