Alvaro “Fred” Tavares DeMello, 60, of Bristol
Alvaro “Fred” Tavares DeMello, 60, of Sowams Drive passed away on Sept. 5, 2020, at home.
Born in Fenais da Luz, St. Michael, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of Maria Conceicao (Tavares) Mello of Bristol and the late Manuel Cabral deMelo. He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Young and her husband Matthew of Smithfield, and Melanie DeMello and her husband Randy of Cranston. Fred was the husband of Patricia Fitzpatrick and stepfather of Hope DiFonzo.
He was the grandfather of Vincent Morales, Sienna Young, Nolan Young, Madelyn Young, Jeremiah DeMello, Gavin Crowe-DeMello, Caleb Crowe-DeMello and Zackary Crowe, and step-grandfather of Alexis DiFonzo. He was the brother of Maria T. Berard, Joseph DeMello and Antonio DeMello.
Alvaro was educated in Bristol and was employed as a sheet rock installer.
His funeral services were held Sept. 9 from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Marinaldo Batista at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Liturgical readings were by Joseph DeMello and Stephanie DeMello. The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Melanie DeMello. Burial followed in North Burial Ground. Serving as pallbearers were Tony Cabral and Joey Cabral.
