All's fair in Westport — fair opens Wednesday

Fair runs through Sunday at Westport Fairgrounds

Posted

For the first time in three years, the Westport Fair is back, full strength and restriction-free, this week.

The fair kicked off Wednesday evening at the fairgrounds on Pine Hill Road, and concludes Sunday. Along the way, there will be dozens and dozens of events — the chicken barbecue, tractor competitions, baking and cooking contests, horseshoe contests, even the return of the much-loved Robinson's Racing Pigs and Paddling Porkers.

"We're psyched," said the fair's Beckie Anderson. "We're ready to go."

Last year's abbreviated fair, held in October, and was a scaled back affair due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Organizers just weren't ready to go in July, Anderson said, but wanted to hold something following the year off in 2020.

This year, with restrictions off the table, it's back to the old days. Though events differ from day to day, daily attractions include carnival rides, antique and livestock exhibits, arts and crafts, vegetable, canning and floral arrangements, and more.

Following is an abbreviated list of events through the weekend. For complete information, see the fair's Facebook page. Daily admission if $5 for those 12 and older.
