To the editor:
As my two years on the Westport Planning Board draws to a close I would like to thank you, the voters, for the privilege of your support. I sought a position on the board because I felt my background as an architect and former planning board member in another community could be of use to the town.
My tenure has been one of significant change for the town with numerous solar power facilities approved, a new hotel in construction, and marijuana facilities being proposed for Route 6 and Main Road. Along the way we have managed to fit in many subdivision proposals, a major study of the East River area water conditions, and a re-codification of our Zoning By-Laws. Needless to say, I found my time on the board both edifying and instructive. This is a town balancing the need to retain our rural character even as the world comes knocking on our door.
I wish to thank my fellow board members who gave, and are giving, countless hours of their time to meet these challenges. Led by our chairman, Jim Whitin, and past board member David Cole, the board has performed professionally and proactively, We benefit so much from their leadership. I am proud to have been a member of this board.
Jim Watterson
Westport Planning Board member (outgoing)
