To the editor:
Recent advertisements in local papers appeal to us support Question 4 in the upcoming March 2 bond referenda. In what can only be described as multiplication of loaves and fishes, it will bring us $358 million of improvements for only $72 million of Rhode Island taxpayers money. What a deal
Perhaps to entice us to support this effort, our elected officials should tell us where at least a resurfacing and upgrade sidewalks for East Main Road stands. They could also add in Sprague Street, where high school students walk to and from on a state highway with no sidewalks.
RIDOT has been promising improvements to East Main Road at various times since 1975. Many of us remember the promised roundabouts vintage 2003. That’s 18 years ago. Please note that the Quaker Hill section of East Main Road has three senior living facilities, a medical facility, and two pharmacies all on one side of the road. I ask the reader of this letter to view the condition of the sidewalks or lack thereof in this area.
Recently, Greene Lane in Middletown got a new sidewalk and resurfacing. The Coddington Highway upgrade is even getting bike lanes. It is time our elected officials do their job. The advertisement does not specify where the money will be spent. Why? Greene Lane versus East Main Road?
