There is an ever-growing list of ice cream flavors to choose from at the Moose Café in Tiverton

Situated in Tiverton, Rhode Island, the Moose Café is a delightful ice cream shop owned by Marc and Sarah Federico. The café offers over 300 flavors of soft serve ice cream and yogurt, along with super premium hard ice cream, coffee, espresso, and pastries (yes, 300 flavors and counting!).

Their journey began when Marc's mother, Nancy Diemoz, bought (and still owns) the Eskimo King in Swansea in 2000. Before they were married, Marc and Sarah both worked at the King, and that experience laid the foundation for the Moose Café.

Since Marc and Sarah built it from the ground up in 2004, Moose Café has evolved from selling coffee, donuts, pastries, and ice cream into something more than an ice cream parlor. The café aims to provide a cheerful atmosphere where patrons can escape the stress of life and enjoy sweet treats. “Ice cream is timeless; it brings out the kid in everyone,” said Marc.

Moose Café stands out with its impressive number of soft serve flavors. Starting with just 50, the café has continued to expand its menu using all-natural extracts, unique candies, and various sauces. This creativity has led to unique combinations like the Elexcitrusy, featuring Szechuan buttons, edible flowers that deliver a tingling sensation when chewed.

The café's dedication to quality is evident in its methodical approach to crafting each treat. Using chocolate, vanilla, and coffee as base flavors, the team of scoopers transforms these into numerous creations.

Marc's childhood memories inspire some of these creations. As a child growing up in Warren, Marc would visit Delekta Pharmacy with his cousin and have a coffee cabinet with mini chocolate chips. “This particular combination stuck with me. So we had to have it on the Moose menu. Then one day I just figured, why not step it up a notch? So I dumped a shot of espresso in and found out it makes for one of the best coffee frappes you've ever had,” Marc said, as he described how he came up with the mach 7, a soft coffee chip frappe infused with espresso, a caffeinated twist on a classic favorite.

Signature items highlight the café's ethos of pushing flavor boundaries. Marc and Sara enjoy experimenting with new combinations, often inspired by local traditions and childhood memories. They recently added quahog stuffies to the menu using a family recipe. “The best stuffies in the world,” Marc said.

Sarah makes all the novelty ice creams — ice cream cakes, pies and premade individual sundaes in cups, ready for pick up in the frozen case by the register. The sundaes come in flavors such as peanut butter cup sundae and a birthday cake sundae. They also have premade pup-cups for dogs.

Beyond its regular offerings, Moose Café entices patrons with a “not so secret menu” that showcases the café's imaginative flair. The spicy Mexican challenges the palate with a unique sweet and spicy profile. It is made with lime ice cream mixed with chili lime seasoning and hot honey served in a house made waffle cone, topped with a little more of the seasoning, and a little more of the honey.

The not-so-secret menu also includes specialty sandwiches like the Portuguese princess, a variation of avocado toast served on a Portuguese bolo, with roasted red peppers, crumbled bacon, and the Canadian moose melt, a ham panini with house made pickled onions. Each dish reflects the café's commitment to quality and creativity, ensuring a memorable dining experience.

Marc and Sarah are deeply connected to Tiverton, sponsoring youth sports teams and partnering with the Tiverton Police for bike safety events. They foster a nurturing environment for their employees, treating them like family and celebrating milestones well after the scoopers move on to other jobs.

Whether you're a local or just passing through, the Moose Café invites you to experience a world of flavors at 1160 Stafford Road, Tiverton, RI. Try the spicy Mexican or the mach 7 — both are worth the calories.
