EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence High School soccer teams each recorded victories to open the week.
The EPHS boys’ soccer team earned a 3-1 win over Chariho earlier this week to level its Division I record to 1-1 on the young season. Tyler Coelho from Evan Goncalves, Manny Gouviea from Leandro Frias and Coelho from Ryan Moniz accounted for the East Providence scoring.
The Townies were coming off a 3-2 loss to Central Falls in their league opener late last week. Frias assisted Moniz’s goal for the Townies’ first tally. John Caleb Kauffman netted the second E.P. goal from Frias.
East Providence is next in action Friday night, Sept. 15, when the Townies play host to reigning state champion Barrington at 6:30.
The EPHS girls, meanwhile, earned their second 7-0 victory in as many Division III games to date this season, beating host Shea by a “touchdown” Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 13, in Pawtucket.
Grace Abrams, who scored a hat-trick in the Townies’ 7-0 win over PCD two days earlier, netted four goals against the Raiders. Lindsey Amaral, Aaliyah Pattie and Michaela Doro scored one apiece. Jaime Sousa and Krystal Pizzi each assisted on a pair of goals. Lily Palumbo and Hailey Placido added one each. Keepers Mia Jackson and Paige Chakouian made zero and one save, respectively.
The Townies are off until they place host to Tolman Monday afternoon, Sept. 18, at 4 o’clock.
