EAST PROVIDENCE — An alleged area bank thief was arrested on Wednesday, June 12, in Massachusetts.

The East Providence Police Department the same day announced the arrest of Kevin Donovan, of Weymouth, Mass., for his alleged participation in a bank robbery that occurred on May 23 at the Citizens Bank branch located at 622 Taunton Ave. in East Providence.

Mr. Donovan, 41, was also the main suspect in an attempted theft at the Citizens Bank branch located at 539 Smithfield Ave. in Pawtucket on June 4.

East Providence and Pawtucket police detectives worked in conjunction to identify Mr. Donovan as the suspect in both bank robberies, in which he stole approximately $4,000 between the two heists.

Last Wednesday, EPPD and PPD detectives were alerted to Mr. Donovan’s location in a shopping plaza in Haverhill, Mass. Local law enforcement immediately notified the Haverhill Police Department and a short time later, East Providence and Pawtucket detectives were told HPD officers had taken Mr. Donovan into custody. Detectives from both agencies responded to Haverhill to continue the investigation.

Mr. Donovan is currently being held in Massachusetts as a Fugitive from Justice Charge on Robbery warrants from East Providence and Pawtucket.

The local investigative team was led by East Providence Detective Jeffrey Mace and Pawtucket Detective Paul Trout. Assisting in the investigation were East Providence Detectives Kris Ellinwood, Matthew McNulty, Michael Spremulli, William Dubois and Steven Rodrigues as well as Pawtucket Detective Michael Cioe. EPPD Detective Ryan Vose led the crime scene processing efforts.
