EAST PROVIDENCE — The Riverside Little League Minor Baseball Division All-Star team completed an undefeated run to the District 2/Ron Silva Tournament title Monday night, July 29, with a 7-3 victory over cross-city foe Rumford in the championship round game played at the Forbes Street Complex.

Riverside, which topped Pawtucket entries Darlington and Pineview along with Bristol en route to the final, took the lead for keeps with three runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Rumford, winners of five in a row after losing its tournament opener, scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the first inning and after two were out.

Riverside actually opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first. Starting pitcher Jonathon Renaud singled, stole second and scored on a Rumford error. Though hosting the game, Riverside lost the pregame coin flip, Rumford opting to be home team on the scoreboard after winning the toss.

Rumford then scored its runs on a two-out single by Jamison Sydney, a Max Correiro walk, a two-run double by Gerry Gagnon, an infield single by Beckett Keough and a Riverside miscue.

Riverside next threatened in the top of third, putting two on with none out, but Rumford starter Sydney got out of the jam, recording a strikeout to the finally end potential threat.

In the fourth, however, Riverside broke through to take the lead for what proved for good. The rally started on back-to-back doubles by Renaud and Owen Richards to open the frame. Two walks then loaded the bases before two more free passes forced in a couple more runs to put Riverside ahead 4-3.

Riverside later tacked on single tallies in both the top of the fifth and sixth innings for insurance. Meanwhile, Renaud kept the Rumford offense at bay, setting it down in order in the home halves of the fourth and fifth as he picked up the win on the mound.

The Riverside team roster included Alex Enright, Jonathon Renaud, Gavin Quinn, Drake Silva, Jacob Sousa, Jose Figueroa, Owen Richards, John Wooten, K.J. Levesque, Jake lacavone and Jacob Hallene. The manager was Vin Enright. Assistant coaches were Kris Hallene, Mike Sabourin and Jody Richards.
