The battle over the Democratic nomination for the District 66 seat in the Rhode Island House of Representatives will highlight primary election day, Wednesday, Sept. 12, in Barrington.
Democrats Liana Cassar and John Chung have been busy campaigning across Barrington and East Providence for the past few months. The two Barrington residents also squared off in a debate last week at Martin Middle School in East Providence (see page 4).
Mr. Chung said during a recent interview that he is focused on ensuring that Barrington's public schools continue to offer a stellar education. He also wants Rhode Island law to protect women's rights that have been provided under Roe v. Wade, and he said that he will work to address the seemingly ever-increasing property taxes in Barrington.
Ms. Cassar said her top priority will be building good government that people can trust. She also wants to ensure that all people have access to affordable, high quality healthcare, and she said she will work to bring common sense gun legislation to the state.
Election information
The polls are scheduled to open at 7 a.m. on Wednesday morning and will close at 8 p.m. All five polling locations will be open in Barrington — in District 66, voters will cast ballots at Barrington High School, Barrington Middle School, and at Nayatt School, while in District 67, people will vote at Hampden Meadows School and Sowams School.
(Public schools are closed on Wednesday, because of the election.)
Voters will also be asked to decide on other races.
