PAWTUCKET — The Division I state championship best-of-three final round series between Bishop Hendricken and LaSalle played last week at McCoy Stadium had a distinct East Bay flavor, including four locals on the roster for the title winning Hawks.

Hendricken, which defeated the Rams by the scores of 1-0 and 4-3 to claim the championship, featured Gatorade Player of the Year and outfielder Tucker Flint of Barrington. The senior is headed to the University of Maryland in the fall to continue his baseball career.

The Hawks also included starting catcher and senior Will Panarello and senior lead-off hitter and outfielder Kevin Gower, both of Barrington as well. Reserve outfielder and senior Connor Pratt resides in Portsmouth.

The Rams, first place during the regular season in the I-B subgroup and the No. 2 tourney seed, included four seniors from East Providence: Game 2 starting pitcher Joey Rego, reliever Andrew Marzetta, starting shortstop Colby Paiva and reserve infielder/relief pitcher Zach White.

Hendricken, the overall No. 1 seed in the state tournament after placing first in the I-A during the regular season, finished its spring unbeaten in league play with a 23-0 record, including a 5-0 mark in the playoffs. The Rams completed their year with a 19-4 record in D-I games. The title was a record 22nd total for the Hawks, who last won the state championship in 2016. LaSalle, making its second finals appearance in three years, won the state title in 2017 when the group of locals on the Rams were sophomores.
