The quest to establish a new patriotic license plate has been realized, as the Bristol Fourth of July Committee secured its 900th order over the weekend.

But that doesn’t mean the campaign is over. Order forms are still available, and the committee is looking to get more orders to ensure the number stays north of 900, according to Judy Squires, who headed up the license plate campaign.

“We want everyone to buy them now so they can be part of the first group to be processed by the DMV,” Ms. Squires said. “It will take two months to be processed. So keep the order forms coming!”

The state would not issue the commemorative Fourth of July license plate until 900 orders had been placed. As of Monday afternoon, 902 Rhode Islanders had ordered their plates, exceeding the goal.

The plate can be yours without a trip to the DMV. There is no license plate surcharge included. You can keep your current RI License plate number. The cost is a one-time fee of $41.50 — $21.50 to the DMV, $15 to the committee, and $5 to the Rhode Island Veterans Home. That means more than $4,500 will go to the Veterans Home.
