I also agree with Warrenite25 that a GPA needs to be part of the solution. A student with A's and B's but an F in an AP or Honors class should be looked at differently that a student with 5 D's and an F. I don't want a student to opt out of an honors or AP class for fear of failing off a team or extracurricular activity. Our policy has been no F's for 3 years and like anything else sometimes we need to revisit our policies to see if changes should be made and how best to make them for the benefit of our students. I hope that now the Administration and the School Committee can get together to find that solution, but as i stated before, I don't believe that solution should be 2 F's.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
