Kudos to the Town of Portsmouth for looking to the private sector to solve the ferry problem!! I believe that the progressive initial response was to try and create yet another quasi-governmental agency to deal with this problem. This is a Prudence Island-Portsmouth issue and we are confident that the able members of the town will be able to find a solution.

I do not personally know Mr. Crosby but I commend him on his definitive proactive action! I am sure that there will be a for-profit business not owned by the government that will provide an amicable solution.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
