PORTSMOUTH — Two juvenile pedestrians were transported to a hospital after being struck by a Jeep in front of Citizens Bank on East Main Road Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 12, police said.
According to Detective Lt. Michael Arnold, police responded to the area at 1:18 p.m. after receiving a report of two pedestrians who had been hit by a motor vehicle.
“Upon police arrival it was revealed that a 2006 Silver Jeep operated by a 32-year-old male and a 2011 green Jeep operated by an 18-year-old female were involved in the accident,” Lt. Arnold stated in a press release.
The driver of the 2011 Jeep was heading southbound on East Main Road and attempting to turn into the parking lot of ACE Hardware, he said.
The male driver, who was operating directly behind the other Jeep, tried to slow down but due to the snow and slick conditions, his vehicle slid on the roadway and veered into two female juvenile pedestrians who were walking across the parking lot, Lt. Arnold said.
The girls complained of pain and were transported to a local hospital. Their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, according to police.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing, police said.
