PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth Patriots scored 10 second-half goals against Mt. Hope Friday night to advance in the Division II boys’ lacrosse playoffs.
The Huskies kept it close, going into halftime down 7-4 in the quarterfinal matchup, but Portsmouth’s offense took over from there.
Three Patriots scored three goals apiece: Cade McHugh (four assists) and Jack Cianciolo and Liam Cooney (one assist apiece). Will Hayes added two more goals.
Also scoring goals for Portsmouth were Marcus Evans (five assists), Wyatt Huggins and Niklas Pederson (one assist each), and Jaxon Kane, Thomas Orr and Liam Craffey.
Jackson Cabral had 12 saves in goal, while Charlie Mottur won 20 of the 22 face-offs he took, and also had an assist.
Tristan Tamulaltes (one assist) and Nick Pierotti each scored three goals for the Huskies. Keegan Hanley added a goal and an assist, and Jared Rego and Ben Dichiappari each had an assist.
In goal, Cam Rancourt had 18 saves for Mt. Hope.
Portsmouth will host East Greenwich in the semifinals at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29.
The winner of that game will advance to the state championship game at Cranston Stadium at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 2.
