Letter: Where are your flags?

To the editor:

Memorial Day is a day set aside in our country for observances in memory of those men and women who have fought for us, died for us and lost so much for us.

Those who have served in war, the families that have lost loved ones and the wounded that walk with ghosts everyday, they are the heroes that we need to honor.

On June 14, 1777, Congress adopted the stars and strips as the national emblem of the United States — our flag, yours and mine.

We need to hang or place our flags proudly on Flag Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Fourth of July (Independence Day), and in a perfect world … every day.

We cannot, or should not, ever forget what so many have done and the ultimate sacrifice that they paid so that we may live in the land of the free.

However, freedom isn't free. Be proud of our flag. Display it with pride for those called to battle in:

• World War I

• World War II

• Korean War

• Vietnam War

• Iraq War

• Afghanistan War

Display our beautiful flag and what it stands for. Teach the children to love and respect the flag and those who have fought for it and the country that they are fortunate to live in … the United States of America.

Please, be thankful for those that have done so much for us.

Show our veterans and their families that we care. It is our time to honor them. Display your flag with pride.

God bless them and God bless America.
