PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth High School girls’ varsity softball team scored five runs in the last two innings to defeat Westerly, 7-3, in a home game on Saturday.

The Bulldogs were ahead 3-2 in the top of the fifth inning and were looking to add to their lead after loading the bases with only one out. They were unable to push any more runs across the plate that inning, however, and the Patriots scored two in the fifth and three in the sixth.

The Division II Patriots have another game against Westerly at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, this time on the road at Cimalore Field. After that they travel to Barrington for a 4:15 p.m. game on Friday, May 14.
