PORTSMOUTH — After winning their first 10 volleyball matches of the season, all by way of shutout victories, the Portsmouth Patriots finally experienced their first defeat May 2 at the hands of Westerly.

But the Division III boys’ team got right back on the winning track — first by edging Mt. Hope by a score of 3-2 on May 5, and then shutting out Davies Career Tech last Thursday, May 8. The two wins improved Portsmouth’s record to an impressive 12-1 in the division.

The Patriots then embarked four-game series of games away from home. They were to play Monday at Exeter West Greenwich High School and Wednesday at Hope High School.

The team will travel to South Kingstown High School for a 6 p.m. game on Friday, May 16, and then take the ferry to Block Island for a game on Tuesday, May 20 (time to be determined).

Portsmouth returns home for a 6 p.m. match against Mt. Hope on Wednesday, May 21, before hitting the road again to play Toll Gate at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 22.
