PORTSMOUTH — Some more legendary Portsmouth High School athletes from years past will be recognized during the fourth annual Portsmouth High School Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in October.

The 2021 honorees are an outstanding group of former athletes, and special contributors to the PHS athletic program, along with the 1970-71 boys’ varsity basketball team that secured the program’s first regular-season basketball championship in school history by winning the Class C Southern title.

Here are all the new honorees:

Athletes

• Duke Ingraham, Class of 1988 

• Becky Ingraham, Class of 1990 

• Dennis Jerome, Class of 1988 

• Robin Ramey, Class of 1989 

• John Burton, Class of 1982 

• Jim Bechtel, Class of 1966 

• Scott Polselli, Class of 1976 

• Sarah McLean, Class of 1999

Team recognition

1970-71 boys’ basketball team, Class C Southern regular-season champions

Special contributor

Norman Bailey, PHS football volunteer

The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 16, at the Green Valley Country Club on Union Street, Portsmouth. The event will begin with a cocktail hour and hors d'oeuvres at 4:30 p.m., followed by the induction ceremony.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
