PORTSMOUTH — Portsmouth Police are investigating the death of a 65-year-old man whose body was found outside a Mare Terrace home Wednesday morning.

“This morning at around 8:30 a.m. we responded to 14 Mare Terrace for a report of a deceased male party located outside the residence,” Detective Lt. John Cahoon stated in an e-mail sent out around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. “The deceased party was a 65-year-old male. The cause of death was not immediately apparent.

State Police were also on the scene to assist with the investigation, he said.

The cause of death is still under investigation.

"We're just waiting for the results from the (medical examiner)," Deputy Police Chief Michael Arnold said in a brief phone interview mid-day on Thursday. "We can't classify it as anything yet. Hopefully we'll learn more from the M.E."

This story will be updated once we learn more from police.
