Men charged with breaking into home on Prudence Island

PORTSMOUTH — Two out-of-town men were arrested last week and charged with breaking and entering into a house on Prudence Island without the owner’s consent. 

According to police, officers responded to the island at about 12:35 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 27, after receiving a report of a breaking and entering on Neck Farm Road. 

Police located the suspects, Devin M. Brown, 19, of 32 Haverford Road, Warwick, and Anthony C. Carani, 19, of 41 McNiff St., West Warwick, and transported them to the police station where they were booked, police said.

Here are some other recent highlights from the Portsmouth Police report:

Wednesday, Nov. 18

Derek M. Anderson, 24, of 70 Washington St., Bristol, was charged with driving without an active license (his third offense), after being pulled over for a traffic violation around 1:35 a.m. on Route 24 North at Sprague Street.

Dennis P. Shannon, 49, of 5 Dubois St., was arrested at his home on a Superior Court bench warrant at 9:15 p.m.

Friday, Nov. 20

Harold W. Hooper, 26, of 80 Ormerod Ave., was arrested on a bench warrant issued from 2nd District Court after police responded around 4:30 p.m. to the area of High Point Avenue and Hedly Street to investigate a report of a suspicious person.

Sunday, Nov. 22

Derek A. Lloyd, 33, of 90 Franklin St., Apt. 1, Bristol, was charged with the manufacture, possession and delivery of a controlled substance. According to police, officers pulled Mr. Lloyd’s vehicle over for speeding and running a stop sign on Boyd’s Lane at Anthony Road around 1:25 a.m. “While speaking to the suspect, officers observed multiple indicators that the suspect was nervous” and they could smell marijuana emanating from the vehicle, according to the report. During a probable cause search, police found “a large quantity of suspected cocaine and approximately $452 on the suspect’s person,” police said. A further search yielded packaging material and a scale, according to police.

Monday, Nov. 23

Amanda M. Ruzzo, 32, of 2749 East Main Road, Apt. 3, was charged with diving while intoxicated (first offense) following a motor vehicle accident at 568 Park Ave. around 10:40 p.m. According to police, Ms. Ruzzo’s vehicle struck an unattended vehicle before the driver left the scene on foot. Police located Ms. Ruzzo and she admitted to being the driver of the vehicle, according to police. 

Thursday, Nov. 26

Julia M. Malzone, 22, of 29 Mill St., Franklin, Mass., was arrested on a 6th District Court bench warrant after the vehicle in which she was a passenger was pulled over on West Main Road at the Mobil Xtra Mart around 12:15 a.m. She was later transported to the women’s facility at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston, police said.

Friday, Nov. 27

Gilbert A. Craig, 62, of 116 West Main Road, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) after being stopped for speeding and roadway violations on West Main Road at Freeborn Street around 2:20 a.m. Police also cited Mr. Craig for refusing to submit to a chemical test.

Christy M. Brennan, 49, of 4 Hemlock Drive, Barrington, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) at about 6:40 p.m. Police found her vehicle in the area of Glen and East Main roads after receiving a request to check the condition of the operator. Ms. Brennan was also cited for refusing a chemical test, according to police.

Shelsae L. Stanley, 27, of 11 Laura St., Tiverton, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) after police stopped her vehicle on Glen Road at East Main Road around 6:45 p.m. following a request to check the condition of the driver. Ms. Stanley was also cited fo refusing a chemical test, police said.

Chue F. Xiong, 28, of 187 Whitmarsh St., Apt. 2, Providence, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense). Police stopped his vehicle on West Main Road at Donna Drive around 10:40 p.m. for speeding and a lane roadway violation.
