Man arrested after trying to jump onto tow truck

PORTSMOUTH — A 29-year-old West Warwick man was arrested Friday, Oct. 21, and charged with disorderly conduct (making loud/disturbing noises).

While on patrol in the area of East Main Road near Clements’ Marketplace shortly before 12:30 p.m., officers clocked a northbound vehicle traveling at about 40 mph in a 25 mph zone, and noticed that its registration sticker had expired, police said.

After the vehicle was pulled over on East Main Road at Bradley Terrace, a routine check revealed that the driver, Matthew J. Brown, of 325 New London Ave., had his rights to operate a motor vehicle suspended, police said.

While the vehicle was being towed away from the scene, Brown began swearing and yelling alongside East Main Road, according to police. As an R&A Towing vehicle was about to drive away, Brown tried to jump onto the tow truck in an attempt to gain entry to his vehicle, police said.

Brown was also charged with driving without an active license.

Here are some more recent highlights from the Portsmouth Police report:

Wednesday, Oct. 19

Amanda Marie Ruzzo, 34, of 2749 East Main Road, Apt. 2, was charged with several offenses after being pulled over on East Main Road around 4 p.m. Following the traffic stop, officers noticed that the vehicle’s registration plate was counterfeit, and that Ruzzo had a suspended driver’s license, according to police. While attempting to take her into custody, Ruzzo actively resisted until officers were able to restrain and secure her in handcuffs, police said. She was charged with forgery and counterfeiting of registration plates, resisting arrest, and driving without an active license (first offense).

Thursday, Oct. 20

Jeffrey Michael Gomez, 40, of 273 East Main Road, Apt. F, was charged with domestic vandalism with malicious injury to property. The charge stems from a call police received on Oct. 16 which resulted in an arrest warrant being issued for Gomez, police said. He was taken into custody four days later. The victim was a 65-year-old woman from Portsmouth, police said.

Sunday, Oct. 23

Ursula Kim Curran, 67, of 438 Wolcott Ave., Apt. 4, Middletown, was charged with driving under the influence, first offense, after being pulled over on East Main Road at Linden Lane around 1:10 a.m. Police said her vehicle was stopped for laned roadway violations and for operating below the minimum speed limit. Curran was also cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test, her second offense, police said.
