You may not be aware that the town's website provides an easy “e-mail opt-in” mechanism to notify residents when Town Council, Planning Board and Zoning Board of Review meeting agendas are posted, as well as when various town-related notifications are publicized.

Once you sign up for the various mailing lists, you'll dazzle your neighbors with your intricate knowledge of town events!

Detailed instructions how to enroll in the opt-in mailing lists follow:

Visit the town's website at portsmouthri.com/myaccount. Select “Create an account.” Once an account is created, revisit the sign-in page and select “Existing account” to log into the CivicPlus platform, which will redirect you to your personalized profile page. Scroll down toward the end of the page, and select the “Notify Me — Stay informed” icon.

Click the “mail” icon (turning it white with a green checkmark) to subscribe to various e-mail lists under “Agenda Center.” For example, if subscribed to the “Town Council” mailing list, you will receive notifications when agenda packets are posted.

To be informed of special collection events (e-waste, scrap metal, Eco-Depots, etc.), under “Notify Me” select the "mail" icon next to “Recycling & Related Issues.”

It goes without saying: Please ensure your e-mail application “whitelists” e-mails originating from listserv@civicplus.com.

He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
