To the editor:
I cannot recall seeing Michelle McGaw’s photograph on the front page — above the fold — of the Sakonnet Times when she announced her candidacy for the House of Representatives District 71 seat. And so when I saw John Edwards’ photograph, in that advantageous setting (S. Times June 18), above an article announcing his own run for said District 71 seat, I can’t help but to begin to wonder….
Personally I am not in favor of two family members holding elected state legislative positions simultaneously, even more so when their respective districts overlap. That being said I sincerely wish John Edwards the best of luck in the upcoming primary.
I’ll be voting for Michelle McGaw, believing that she’ll be an independent voice when needed and not end up singing, as Representative Canario does all too often, in Speaker Mattiello’s “Smith Hill’ choir.
