Letter: Let’s maintain access to the Glen Trail for all

To the editor:

There are so many reasons that Portsmouth and Aquidneck Island are a great place to live. One of them being the ability to access wonderful natural spaces without traveling long distances. With development, the number of beautiful open space areas continues to decrease, additionally resulting in reduced wildlife habitat.

Sadly, it has come to our attention that one of the most pristine nature paths, the Glen Trail, may soon become privately owned, ending the opportunity for the many walkers to enjoy.

The Glen Trail, on any given day year-round, is utilized by individuals and families enjoying the solitude, waterfalls, rushing brooks and easy paths. Dog-walkers interact with young children experiencing their first interactions with nature. It is rare to see any litter or animal waste as the visitors are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to share in the beauty — and in turn incredibly respectful in maintaining the beauty.

It is our hope that the Town of Portsmouth can work together with the future owners of this property to maintain the access the public currently have.
