Tiverton tax rate up 30 cents in budget plan
Council expected to finalize $60.6 million spending plan Tuesday
While the numbers are subject to change, members of the Tiverton Town Council met Monday night and agreed on a preliminary combined town and school budget of $60.62 million, an increase of $1.89 million, or 3.43 percent, from the current year. A public hearing and final vote were expected Tuesday evening.
The budget will include $25.46 million in municipal spending and a $35.16 million school budget. Of the total, $29.24 million will come from the town, a 3.5 percent increase over this year. School committee members had asked for a 4 percent increase, and had proposed a $35.6 million budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
The tax rate will rise 30 cents if the budget passes as is, going from $11.05 to $11.35. A homeowner with property accessed at $500,000, would pay $150 more in taxes next fiscal year.
