THE TOWN CRIER — Let’s celebrate 250, Little Compton!

Posted

Even though it might sound strange that last year’s Little Compton 350 committee is celebrating Little Compton 250 this year, we are! Many of us from the 350 committee have now morphed into Little Compton Celebrates America 250, and will be bringing summer events to Little Compton once again. We want to bring back some of the events from last year’s celebration, and also some popular events from throughout the years in our town.

Although the schedule of events is not complete, we can tell you to look for the following: The screening of the Kinnane Brothers movie “Solo Mio” with other activities on Friday night, a chicken barbecue on Saturday by Ronnie Potter who does the fabulous barbecues at the Westport Fair, followed by music and dancing with Mr. Chubb. As if that were not enough for one day, the evening will end with a loud bang and FIREWORKS! The next morning you are invited to join us for a Jonnycake Brunch!  We have all been missing our johnnycakes so this will be our chance to chow down while visiting with each other, and listening to the fun music of Gary Farias.

The weekend of August 14, 15, and 16 will be geared to “Family, Farmers, and Flags,” so expect much more excitement, right there on South of Commons Road in Richmond’s Field, just like we never left!

Our committee comprises Phil Warren, chairman; Melissa McCarthy, vice-chairman; Caroline Wilkie Wordell, secretary; Herb Case, treasurer, Bill Boudreau, George Goulart, Edi Marion, Carolyn Montgomery, Joyce Moson, Barbara Passmore, Laurie Petrarca, Skip Roussell, and Beth Ryan.

We are hoping that you will help us in our efforts by making a donation to Little Compton Celebrates America 250.  We love our community and our nation, and are proud to celebrate both during this important year in our history!

Please make checks payable to Town of Little Compton with a notation in the lower left hand corner for LITTLE COMPTON CELEBRATES AMERICA 250, and mail to Little Compton Celebrates America 250, P.O. Box 1051, Little Compton, R.I. 02837

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
