PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth High School football team couldn’t manage to put any points on the board as North Kingstown won the season-opener Friday night on the turf field, 20-0.

The Patriots, 0-1 in Division II-B, hope to bounce back against Westerly in another home game this Friday, Sept. 16. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

The Skippers hit field goals in each of the first two quarters to take a 6-0 lead at the half. The third quarter was scoreless, but North Kingstown poured in on in the fourth quarter, scoring a touchdown with 11 minutes to go, and another with eight minutes left after blocking and recovering a Portsmouth punt.
