Rhode Island State Police have charged a Little Compton tax clerk with embezzlement, though it was unknown Friday afternoon whether the charges relate to her work for the town.

Rachel Bruno, 31, of 202G Long Highway, is a fiscal clerk in the office of the tax assessor. She was arrested by members of the state police Financial Crimes Unit on Thursday, Nov. 30, and charged with embezzlement/fraudulent conversion over $100. Following her arraignment at state police headquarters, Bruno was released on $1,000 personal recognizance.

Major Kenneth M. Moriarty of the state police, who announced the arrest, could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon. Little Compton Town Administrator Tony Teixeira also could not be reached.
