Little Compton School Committee race: Rocha out, Gleicher and Chase in

Amy Gleicher's apparent win would see Little Compton's first-ever husband and wife school committee team

Though mail-in ballots have yet to be counted, Tuesday's Little Compton School Committee vote could bring two big developments — the departure of incumbent Republican Michael Rocha, who also serves as the chairman of the Republican Town Committee; and the ascension of the first-ever husband and wife team ever to serve on any Little Compton school committee.

Pending the results of mail-in ballots due to be tallied Wednesday, Democrat Susan Chase earned the highest number of votes in the two-seat race. Finishing 119 votes behind her was second place finisher Amy Gleicher, a Democrat whose husband Mark was just appointed to his seat less than a month ago and will not be up for re-election until 2026.

If the numbers do not change, the upcoming school committee will consist of Chase, both Gleichers, chairman Travis Auty, a Democrat and chairman of the Democratic Town Committee, and Republican Susan Kinnane. That gives the Democrats a 4-1 majority.

Also finishing out of the money behind Rocha were Republican Brandon E. Pineo with 868 votes, and Independent Travis Snow with 412.

Mark Gleicher was appointed to his seat last month to fill a vacancy created by the departure of former school committee Megan Gonzalez. Gleicher earned that appointment as the highest vote getter who did not win a seat in the 2022 election.

In
Susan D. Chase: 1,218 votes (26.5 percent)
Amy L. Gleicher: 1,099 votes (23.9 percent).

Out
Michael W. Rocha II: 1,000 votes (21.7 percent)
Brandon E. Pineo: 868 votes (18.9 percent)
Travis Snow: 412 votes (9 percent)
Write-ins: 3 (.1 percent)
