To the editor:
On the eve of Mother Nature’s recent winter storm whammy, a business with a prominent sign on Main Road jokes, “So much for global warming.” (The same marquee recently announced, “Thank You President Trump.”)
This reminds us of how we love comedy in public places. The Middle Ages gave us roaming troupes of clowns, and now Tiverton has its own mocking challenge to the natural disruptions that folks see just past the end of their nose. Ironically, the storm may be evidence of the disruption, but heedless minds live in their own reality.
Coming next — who knows?—maybe a sign by the road declaring that the earth is flat.
Let’s laugh while we can. The only alternative is to cry.
