To the editor:
The Little Compton Agricultural Conservancy Trust (LCACT) owns outright or the development rights to many properties in town. Each has a management plan. Some may permit crops to be grown. Some may permit the public to only take a long walk during daylight hours.
Does the LCACT monitor these properties to see that the management plans are being followed? If so, how often? Who does the monitoring? Another land conservation organization in town has a volunteer steward program.
How many landowners who are considering offering their lands to the LCACT may have second thoughts if the LCACT is not doing an adequate job of monitoring their properties?
Properties owned by the LCACT are legally owned by the Town of Little Compton. The past few years have seen the LCACT and therefore the town become involved in legal battles over the use of some LCACT properties. The town needs to become more involved in the operation of LCACT.
