Letter: I'm voting for the real Democrat, Michelle McGaw

I’m supporting long-time Democrat Michelle McGaw, a real Democrat, for District 71 RI state representative. Michelle delivers! She’s got the chops to do the job because she’s done numerous other jobs: for Portsmouth, with issues like solid waste, for Rhode Island, for the Democratic Party. Michelle needs your support and asks for your vote so she can e;iver for you.

Michelle declared for the seat in late 2019, in a race where, recently, several other candidates, sensing opportunity ‘in the wind,’ jumped into this race at the last minute. Michelle’s no Johnny-come-lately and she’s gaining momentum. Michelle will be standing on a solid foundation of service she’s building for you when other candidates pack it in.

The ‘elephant in the room’ is critically important quality healthcare.

Lemme tell you, if you haven’t already been affected while trying to not get infected from the pandemic, from tanking economy, chances are you will.

Here’s how it works: You lose your job. Strike one. You find out you no longer have health insurance. Strike two. You’ve heard about ‘COBRA’ (aptly named). COBRA basically says: if you want the same health insurance you were getting from your employer, you pay what you were paying for health insurance, plus what your employer was paying, plus another, oh, I dunno, 10% or more for ‘administrative expenses.’ Strike three — you're out!

All those folks losing jobs are also losing healthcare at a critical time, given the pandemic. It’s always a critical time when it comes to healthcare.

Michelle knows health care. She knows what it takes, what it’s about, what you’re facing: potential healthcare financial ruin. There’s a reason people go bankrupt from medical bills. Then there’s your health – Ruined — strike four. Though you didn’t know you had a fourth strike, you’re learning fast.

We’re Democrats – we didn’t sign on to get rich – other side has a monopoly on that - but take care of working people; middle class, elderly, disabled, graduates with student loans, less fortunate.

The 1% belongs to the other party – they know very well how to take care of themselves. I know I want a Democratic state rep who’s a real Democrat, who fights and stands up for all of us, not just the privileged few.

Michelle knows how to work the system from day one, and it’s not by jumping in at the last minute and expecting voters to start singing Hallelujah.

Michelle’s like a building foundation: steady, strong, reliable, delivering ...

Michelle recently, said: “I won't wait until the water is at our door to start fighting to save our climate." Rhode Island, after all, is the Ocean State.

I’m supporting Michelle McGaw, devoted, hard-working, problem-solving, declared Democratic candidate for District 71 Rhode Island state representative.

I want Michelle McGaw on my side. Michelle wants to work for you. Your vote in the September Democratic primary keeps the ball rolling. Please help us make it happen.
